Dr Ramnath Misra superannuated from his position as Professor and Head of the Department of Clinical Immunology and Dean of the SGPGIMS, Lucknow in 2019. After his graduation in 1977 and post graduation in Medicine in 1982 at SCB Medical College Cuttack, he was trained as a ICMR Talent Search Research Officer with Prof. A N Malaviya, Division of Clinical Immunology, AIIMS, New Delhi in May 1982. Subsequently, as a recipient of Arthritis Rheumatism Council Fellowship, he moved to UK in 1986 to work with Sir Prof R N Maini, the co-discoverer of anti TNF therapy at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, London. He returned to India in 1989 and joined as Associate Professor in the newly established department of Clinical Immunology at SGPGIMS, Lucknow and was pioneer in establishing the department which is one of the leading centers in the country with international recognition. He was pivotal in starting the first DM program which has produced more than 70 postgraduates. He is an outstanding clinical researcher with 225 indexed publications in national and international journals. He is the recipient of the Samanta Chandrasekhar Award by Odisha Bigyan Academy and the S R Naik Award for research excellence from SGPGIMS, Lucknow. He was the past President of the Indian Rheumatology Association. He is Fellow of Royal College of Physicians, London and of the National Academy of Medical Sciences.
